Most people know that Epsom Salts make a good addition to bath water, but do you know exactly what it does and that there are countless more benefits to using this product? Well, guess what? I am going to share them with you today, here are the top 3 benefits of Epsom Salts.
First let’s answer the question What is Epsom Salt?
Deriving its name from the city of its origin, (Epsom in England) Epsom Salt is made of Magnesium, Sulphur and Oxygen which makes it Magnesium Sulfate. It looks like salt crystals, but it is not an edible salt so do not consume it, ever.
Epsom salt baths are known for their ability to relieve stress, relax sore muscles, soothe away body pain and is one of the many ways to absorb the very important mineral Magnesium into the body.
3 benefits of Epsom Salts:
1. Toxin Remover
Epsom salt works beautifully to flush out toxins and excess salts from the body through the skin by the process of Reverse Osmosis. This reduces the overall toxin level in the body thereby making it less prone to disease. When having a Detox bath, follow the guidelines provided below (How to use Epsom Salts?) but stay in the bath for 40 minutes to gain maximum benefit.
Note: always drink lots of water before and after a detox bath so that you increase detoxification and avoid dehydration.
2. Constipation
Whilst I don’t recommend this as your primary go-to option for relieving constipation, Epsom Salt has been approved by the FDA as a natural laxative. It increases water in the intestines and is effective in cleansing the colon in times of dire need.
Note: Epsom salts cannot be taken orally, there is a different product available for oral use to relieve constipation and must be taken with lots of water.
3. Pain Reliever
I personally use Epsom Salt to relieve sore muscles, body aches and headaches. It has amazing power to reduce inflammation in the body thereby relieving pain, in fact low Magnesium levels are one of the reasons for increased pain and inflammation in the body.
Also, it is very calming after a stressful day, add a few drops of Lavender essential oil to your Epsom Salt bath and it makes for a relaxing bath just before bed for a deep and peaceful night.
Magnesium is involved in over 300 bodily processes, so a deficiency will more than likely show up in the form of headaches, aches and pains, muscle cramps, excess calcification in the body, high blood pressure, mental health concerns, sleep problems, low energy, poor bone health – you get the picture!
Where to buy?
Epsom Salt is easily available at most pharmacies, health food stores and grocery stores.
How to use Epsom Salts?
The best way to use Epsom salts is to simply add 2 cups of Epsom Salt to running bath of water and soak in it for 20-30 minutes for a therapeutic experience.
Other ways to use Epsom Salts include:
